I'm a free spirit, I got my passport when I was given two days notice to come on a vacation to the bahamas. However, I also love luxury and design. This book showcases the lives of affluent free spirits who know how to do travel, luxury, and design as if it's their job… and if they had to work, it would be (and for a few… is).The photography is a beautiful mix of vintage photos of The Stones and new photos of current day wanderlusters. It pretty much is what it say it is.No one gets the trots or jetlag or x-rayed by the airport trolls taking this comfortable tour of some of the world's nicer sub-jetset radar, further out, get away destinations. No pain, no strain, lots of colorful things to see and do, to feel and learn and eat at a bargain price. This is why travel books are so popular. With the best, there is no need to actually visit bodily, personally. The book will do and this one does. Buy it, been there, done that. Happy travels!Less imagery than I anticipated - more written word (which I don’t look for in coffee table books). If you’re looking purely for a fun conversation starter or coffee table addition, I’d go elsewhere given the price on this one (unless you want to read it)This is a beautiful book and the photography is vivid and gorgeous. It makes for great escapism, to see how other people live and howthey've reimagined life.l have a feeling that not too many of us whohave purchased this book can live this sort of lifestyle, but it's funto dream. It's amazing how far the concept of Gypset has come ina few short years.Your personal Utopia will be how you make it. ;)Much much better then the first book, Gypset Style. Seems to be a lot more pictures and better quality pictures (unlike the pixelated pics in Style).I didn't think this book was as good as the other reviewers thought. For me, it lacks information and it tries to be too cool. It's a book for hipster who want to pretend they are alternative people. Also, the size of the book is not friendly at all. it's too big to carry to read on the subway or for a trip.Love the idea of the book, the photography is .... ok & and the author seems to want to be the people she is writing about. Horrible cover picture.Quirky, interesting and comprehensive. A great book for young and not so young creative types. Lonely planet for the funky traveller. This wasn't what I was expecting- it read as an extended Vogue travel page, and wasn't very interesting in the end, as it was really about an extremely limited group of people - I was expecting more surprises, and more eccentricity, and more flamboyance.Been wanting to collect and read these books for awhile, great coffee table book, great pictures looking forward to reading probably and getting the other two books to go with it.It's like reading a glossy magazine -- nice pictures and superficial. Good to know about some unusual travel places like Lamu.Although slightly put off by the cover,I hoped this would be about real people living in new globe friendly ways in remote corners of the globe...But alas. Rather it is about the various playgrounds of various insufferable over privileged oiks who have used their money to make nauseatingly on-trend enclaves of superiority where they can examine their rainbow belly fluff and weep over their middle class angst. Ugh. Sent it back.If you loved Gypset Style you will loooooove this! Ive never been disappointed with Assouline books as they manage to combine informative dreamy text with equally amazing pictures, but the Gypset books are, well, if you ever, even for a minute wanted to pack up (stylishly & nonchalantly...)find that perfect beach or cabin, where the people in the vacinity match your idea of heaven & even the tramps (this is my daydream - not the book..)are really salty sea dogs with a tale to tell & also happen to be able to whip up a cocktail & then you'd find he was really a prince who decided to drop out of society, BUY this book! its made me want to hand my notice in at work & make a living from sprinkling sequins 0 0 0 0 0 0 Full of stories, full of pictures, full of dangerous ideas..
