It's much better at being an urban "day bag" for professionals than I expected. I carried it for a week that involved an urban conference with lots of city time, walking long distances, as well as getting in and out of various transportation. It's a good-looking pack. But if you don't carry a laptop, or for in-flight or trail usage, you're better off with a different bag.Why it's good for the city professional:It neatly holds a laptop and a tablet, has an open outer pocket for easy access to small items (my conference badge went in there), a zippered outer pocket for valuables, and a smaller inner pocket & organizer for cables or pens or whatever. The bottle holder neatly held my Kleen Kanteen, a 16.9oz water bottle should also fit perfectly. The roll top can be tightened if you're not carrying much, or loosened (or left open) if you did some shopping or got too much conference swag. It's a slim bag, which is excellent for crowds or crowding, You're much less likely to bump somebody, can squeeze through spaces, and it generally looks good instead of awkward. The straps and size of the bag were very good for supporting the bag against my hips (male, average build, 5'11ish-- pictured). I walked wearing the bag with some load in it for at least 15 miles. It got drizzled on quite a few times, so I can verify it is water repellent. What it's not good for:But if you don't carry a laptop or similar? Then skip it-- the main compartment is heavily dedicated to the in-built laptop sleeve, which takes up about half of the interior volume. That interior volume is rather limited. Your overnight kit will not fit in here. Nor the groceries. For a dayhike it's probably fine, but not optimal.I wouldn't carry it: For your airplane carry-on -- the volume is too small, and the roll top + tight interior is a pain in a cramped space (like when it's under your seat). For outdoor activity, you're probably not bringing electronics, and it only has one bottle holder. It's too small for an urban hauler (grocery runs, baby bag, etc).Overall-- great looking bag, no signs of wear after a week of hard use/abuse, and I'll definitely take it on my next urban work trip. Just keep in mind it's a pretty specialized bag.
